The raffle quilt has borders!

The raffle quilt top is finished, borders and all!
I'm sure you'll agree that the indigo fabric frames the quilt perfectly and makes the blocks shine!

Here are some of the committee members who helped sew the quilt. Others couldn't make the meeting and there are some hiding behind the quilt.

We've decided on the name 'Cherry Time' for our lovely quilt. Anne Sommerlad who designed the quilt is calling her pattern Cheritaimu which is Japanese for Cherry Time.  Anne, our featured quilter for the 2017 show will be making the same pattern in very different colours. Won't that be wonderful to see!!

Cherry Time suits our quilt perfectly because if you look closely you'll see cherry blossoms in the blocks.

For the backing fabric we have a flight of dragonflies.

The top is now with Susie Anderson for her to add her quilting magic. It wont be long now until we start selling raffle tickets.

In the meantime, the quilt show bookmarks and flyers are being printed, articles for magazines have been sent off, banners organised, starting to plan the stall holders and organise the hall. There's always things to be done.

I hope you're us helping out by sewing lots of wonderful quilts to enter in the show when entries open at the beginning of February.

Springwood Community Quilt Show sightings

Have you seen the latest edition of Quilter's Companion

The Springwood Quilt Show's 2016 Featured Quilter Chris Jurd made the fabulous quilt on the cover, There's a dvd that comes as part of the magazine where Chris explains techniques and tips to help you make your own version of this quilt. I can see this quilt being the new craze around the quilting world!

The edition also has a pattern by our 2017 Featured Quilter, Anne Sommerlad. Starburst  showcases Anne's clever design skills at creating quilts with wonderful secondary patterns. Wouldn't this quilt look fabulous in Christmas colours! It's still a month until Christmas so you have plenty of time to whip this up.

There is a great feature of lots of photos of quilts from the Sydney Quilt Show. Here's picture of Rachaeldaisy's Best in Show Quilt Whizz Bang! The Springwood Community Quilt Show was the first show Rachael ever entered a quilt into, and she has entered quilts every year since. We're looking forward to seeing this beautiful quilt hanging at our show in a couple of years after it has returned from it's Australian Tour.

Thanks Quilters Companion for creating such beautiful inspiring magazines!!

Moving onto some other wonderful Springwood Quilt Show community news.
Francoise Matter won first prize in Quilting and Patchwork category at the recent Penrith Show for her Mariners Compass quilt using Chris Jurd's Mariner's Madness quilt pattern.
Congratulations Francoise!!!

Here is a photo of Francoise at the 2016 Springwood Quilt Show. Francoise is one of our fabulous volunteers. She helps on the set up days, does white glove duty as you can see from her gloves, and then does the pack up as well. The Springwood Community Quilt Show couldn't happen without wonderful volunteers like her.

We were pleased as punch to see our 2013 raffle quilt Homage shown on Barbara Brackman's Material Culture blog. Barbara included it as an example of quilts made of hexagons  Have a look here. You'll be inspired by the great range of hexagon quilts and we're very honoured to have ours included.

Talking of raffle quilts. We've picked a name and a border fabric for out 2017 raffle quilt but I'll save that for the next post when we get lots of photos. Surely there was enough beautiful quilts in this post already :)

A big donation

It was a perfect Blue Mountains spring day when committee members of the Springwood Community Quilt Show attended a ceremony to present a cheque for $8000 to the Blue Mountains Rural Fire Service. The event was hosted by Maurice Cooper at Bygone Beautys Treasured Teapot Museum and Tearooms in Leura.

Andrew Kaye, the Community Engagement Officer for the Blue Mountains RFS said the money will be allocated to the many brigades throughout the Blue Mountains region. As the fire season in the Blue Mountains is upon us it is a timely reminder of the importance of supporting these brigades that are run by volunteers.

The Springwood Community Quilt Show is held every year on the last week of April yet the committee and volunteers work hard all year round to ensure a successful show. It’s a great result to be able to raise such a large amount of money that assists the community. The Springwood Community Quilt Show also makes donations to the textiles department at Springwood High School to promote the next generation of sewers.
Pictured in photo from left to right - Lorraine Lloyd, Marilyn Andrews, Carol Hawkes, Community Engagement Coordinater Andrew Kaye, Rachaeldaisy, Chris Jurd and Bygone Beautys proprietor Maurice Cooper.

Now we couldn't mention a teapot museum without showing you some photos.

The museum and tearooms is set in this beautiful old home in the heart of Leura.

The tea pot theme can be seen everywhere.

Well lit glass cabinets house thousands of teapots. There are more than 6600 in the collection. One of the largest collections in the world.

We couldn't find a sewing machine teapot but we did find an iron.

How sweet is this table with the makings of scones on it.

A teapot with three spouts!

Pretty tea cosies!

In other rooms teapots are displayed high up on shelves.

There are even teapots on the carpet.

The tiles aren't teapot themed but we liked the way they looked like a quilt.

It's not all teapots, Bygone Beautys is a popular tearooms as well. It is well known for delicious lunches, morning and afternoon teas. People travel to the mountains especially for the high tea.
I won't show all of the dishes we ate but the Two Melon Soup deserves a photo.

We all admired the pretty table cloth, It would make a great border for a quilt.

Bygone Beautys is open 7 days a week and is definitely worth a visit. You'll be amazed at the teapots and delighted by the delicious treats!

Raffle Quilt Sewing Day

The last two blocks for our raffle quilt were handed in.

Which meant another raffle quilt sewing day!

Chris,

Lorraine,

and Marilyn ( who had to leave before I could get a photo) all sewed pieces of the top together.

Carol pressed seams and helped everyone with their sewing.

Before too long this was on the design wall.

Isn't it spectacular!!!

We're still on the hunt for the perfect border fabric.

And when we find it it'll be time for another fun sewing day.
